The Firm represents the interests of the media in connection with virtually all legal issues touching members of the industry in New Hampshire.
Rick Gagliuso has represented Nashua's newspaper, the second largest daily in New Hampshire, since the early 1980s. Today, he is recognized as one of only a few New Hampshire attorneys fairly labeled a "media lawyer," and as such, he is often invited to speak at seminars and conferences on media law and practice. The Firm is a member of the Media Law Resource Center and Rick is a member of the Communications Forum of the American Bar Association.
The Firm regularly represents newspapers, among other print and Internet media outlets, in litigation related to libel, privacy and access to public records and proceedings. Its media work has grown to include the full range of legal issues arising in the newsroom, from prepublication review to defending subpoenas issued to reporters and photographers. A significant portion of the Firm's practice is devoted to media issues and first amendment issues, with all of the Firm's attorneys contributing as the need arises.
The Firm has represented members of the press in dozens of matters involving access to public records and proceedings under both the federal Freedom of Information Act and its New Hampshire counterpart, the Right to Know Law. The Firm has been responsible for identifying, raising and litigating to successful conclusion several access issues of first impression in New Hampshire. Its attorneys advise media clients on an ongoing basis as to their rights of access under state and federal law.
The Firm has also represented media interests in all aspects and phases of libel and privacy issues, from prepublication review and "libel audits" to the defense of both libel and privacy actions. The Firm is one of the few in New Hampshire with experience in these matters, and as such, it has been called upon to represent parties in cases of national scope brought in the courts of New Hampshire. |
